Samsung can take a leaf out of its book: this new Android smartphone manages to combine battery life and finesse

Offering a thin smartphone that still has a high-capacity battery is a dilemma that some Chinese Android smartphone brands are solving, right under Samsung's nose.

Samsung can take a leaf out of its book: this new Android smartphone manages to combine battery life and finesse

While smartphone manufacturers have engaged in a battle for the thinnest design, the challenge arises of integrating batteries large enough to provide good battery life for our phones. Recently, Samsung tried this with the Galaxy S25 Edge. The thinness of this model is impressive, but it failed to convince us regarding its endurance.

Chinese manufacturers seem to be ahead of the curve in this regard, and Honor's next foldable, the Magic V5, is not likely to prove us wrong. Certification documents had already informed us that the mobile would be equipped with a 5,950 mAh battery (minimum value), the leaker Panda is Bald tells us that its typical value should be 6,100 mAh (100 mAh more than the future vivo X Fold5). The brand will undoubtedly mention this capacity of 6,100 mAh in its communication.

The Honor Magic V5 could fold the Galaxy Z Fold 7

In any case, we are seeing a nice increase, since the battery of the Honor Magic V3 reached 5,150 mAh, which was already very good. This is all the more astonishing given that the manufacturer has reportedly managed to slim down its foldable smartphone, reducing its thickness from 9.2 to 9 mm when folded.

Honor, like other Chinese manufacturers, uses carbon silicon technology to improve the energy density of its batteries. This allows it to boost their capacity without increasing their size compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries. This allows us to have thin smartphones that still have a long lifespan.

This balancing act between slim design and powerful battery power poses problems for Samsung, which is struggling to advance one without sacrificing the other. We hope that the Galaxy Z Fold 7, coming in the coming weeks, can reshuffle the deck, but our experience with the Galaxy S25 Edge doesn't give us cause for optimism.
