For several years, Samsung has been setting the pace during the summer with its folding smartphone announcements. Typically, the event highlights two models: a book-style Galaxy Z Fold and a clamshell Galaxy Z Flip. But the 2025 edition could be a little different. The Korean brand has just confirmed the arrival of a high-end folding device labeled "Ultra."
Towards an ultra-thin Samsung Galaxy Z Fold?
Samsung has not yet revealed the name of this future model, but everything points to a Galaxy Z Fold Ultra or a Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra. In its press release, the brand emphasizes the device's lightness and compactness, mentioning a technical sheet that goes "beyond a simple list of improvements." The idea would be to offer a thinner and lighter alternative to the current Fold range, without compromising on quality.
A GIF shared by Samsung shows a prototype with particularly thin lines, thinner than those of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It remains to be seen whether this thinness will allow Samsung to compete with rivals like the Honor Magic V3 or the Huawei Mate X6, which have already demonstrated their expertise in this field.
Are there any compromises to be expected on the battery or the camera?
The Galaxy S25 Edge also focused on thinness, but at the cost of significant concessions: reduced battery, absent photo sensors... Will Samsung be able to avoid the same mistakes with this future Ultra model? Rumors suggest the integration of a silicon-carbon battery, which would save space without sacrificing battery life. It also remains to be seen whether the telephoto lens, often absent from thinner models, will be retained.
All the answers could arrive as early as this summer. The next Galaxy Unpacked conference is expected for July. Until then, the mystery remains.
