A very useful feature is disappearing from some Samsung smartwatches. Several older models can no longer download the Samsung Pay app. And once deleted, it will be impossible to recover it.

Samsung Pay is no longer available on these smartwatches, here are the affected models

Smartwatches today allow you to do much more than check the time or track your physical activity. They can be used for contactless payment, simply by bringing your wrist close to the terminal. This very popular feature is one of the major selling points of some high-end models. It eliminates the need to take out your phone or bank card, which is practical for everyday use. However, the watch still needs to be compatible with payment services. Samsung has just announced that its mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, will no longer be available on several older Galaxy watches. The affected models are those that run Tizen, the system the brand used before switching to Wear OS, developed by Google. This decision means that some users will lose access to a widely used feature. Software support is therefore gradually being reduced for older devices.

Samsung Pay disappears from Gear S2, Gear S3, and Galaxy Watch 3 watches running Tizen

The affected models are the Gear S2, Gear S3, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active 2, and the Galaxy Watch 3. All run on Tizen, a system that Samsung abandoned in 2021. The Samsung Pay app is no longer downloadable on these watches. Users who had already installed it can continue to use it as long as it is not reset. However, once deleted, it is impossible to reinstall it, even by re-downloading it. This withdrawal is gradual, but final.

Newer watches, such as the Galaxy Watch 4, 5, 6, or the Galaxy Watch Ultra — which we recently tested — are not affected. They all run on Wear OS, which guarantees compatibility with Samsung Pay. The brand is now focusing on these new models to offer improved functions such as fall detection, advanced sleep measurement, and stronger integration with Google Assistant. The removal of this app from older models therefore marks a clear transition to a new generation of more comprehensive smartwatches.
