A brand new folding smartphone model is about to join the Galaxy range. Samsung promises a thinner, lighter, and high-end device. It could well redefine its mobile strategy as early as this summer.
So far, Samsung's launches of its folding smartphones have followed a well-established rhythm: a clamshell model, the Galaxy Z Flip, and a large-screen foldable model, the Galaxy Z Fold. But in 2025, the formula could evolve. The manufacturer has just officially announced the arrival of a new folding model labeled Ultra, scheduled for this summer. The exact name has not been confirmed, but the most likely would be Galaxy Z Fold Ultra. This model would complement the current offering by aiming for an even more premium positioning, like the Galaxy S Ultra.
In a press release, Samsung is talking about a device that is thinner, lighter and more advanced than previous models. The brand is talking about a foldable that “goes beyond a simple list of improved features” in a “more compact and portable format.” A short animation shared by the brand shows an extremely thin dual-screen device, even thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. This design could allow the brand to respond to pressure from competitors, particularly HONOR and HUAWEI, which already offer very thin models.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Ultra focuses on a slimmer format without losing power
The future Ultra model could integrate new components such as a silicon-carbon battery, lighter than a conventional battery. It could also retain key elements such as the telephoto sensor, often removed from models that are too thin. Samsung will have to find the right balance between thinness, power, and battery life. The challenge is to avoid repeating the criticisms received by the Galaxy S25 Edge, which was deemed too limited due to its ultra-thin design. For now, no official full visuals or technical specifications have been revealed. Everything suggests that Galaxy Unpacked will be held in July, with the expected presentation of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and this Ultra model. Samsung could unveil its new vision of the folding smartphone, combining extreme design and premium features. Until then, rumors will continue to fuel expectations around this still-mysterious device.
