Say goodbye to this Android feature, Google will remove it soon

Google is adding another brick to the edifice of options and services that have been removed over time. One of them will soon disappear from our Android smartphones. Here's what it is.

Say goodbye to this Android feature, Google will remove it soon

Google often launches apps, web services, or other services to offer something new. Sometimes success is achieved, but every now and then, the Mountain View company realizes that this is far from the case and must then decide. Should it persist or end the adventure? If you remember Google Podcasts, Stadia, Hangouts, Play Music or even Inbox, you know perfectly well which solution it leans towards most often.

At the time of publication, there are almost 300 entries in the “Google graveyard”, 296 to be exact. And soon, there will be one more. Digging into the latest test version of Android Studio, an environment for developing Android applications, we find a new line that leaves no room for doubt. Google is going to “kill” another of its services after 8 years of loyal service.

Google is ending this Android feature; it will disappear soon.

The good news is that you probably won't miss the Android option in question. It's called Instant Apps, launched in 2017 on the Play Store. As a reminder, this is a feature that lets you try an app on your smartphone without having to install it completely. Very practical when you're the type to test several on a regular basis. The streaming platform Vimeo and the online sales site Wish were among the first to offer them, gaining users in the process.

But it clearly wasn't enough, and for good reason: very few developers bothered to create an Instant App because of the constraints imposed. Google is taking note, and Android Studio states that “Support for Instant Apps will be removed from Google Play in December 2025.” The teams at Android Authority confirm the mention. So you still have a few months to make the most of Instant Apps before you have to say goodbye to them.
