Star Wars Battlefront 3 Coming Soon? The Madness Continues, Records Are Breaking, EA Must React!

Star Wars Battlefront 3 Coming Soon? The Madness Continues, Records Are Breaking, EA Must React!

Sometimes there are mysteries that just can't be explained. With Star Wars Battlefront 2 having been released for almost eight years, you'd think players would have long since moved on. Especially considering the franchise has since spawned multiple projects, such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, for example. But no. For the past few weeks, Battlefront 2 seems to be making a comeback, even to the point of rekindling the hype surrounding a potential Star Wars Battlefront 3.

Eight years after its release, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is back in force

However, things weren't a done deal when Star Wars Battlefront 2 was released at the end of 2017. Because at the time of its launch, the title developed in collaboration by DICE, Motive Studios and Criterion Games was quickly criticized for its excessive use of loot boxes, which resembled a form of pay-to-win. An aberration that was widely criticized by players, who now seem to have forgiven Electronic Arts for this lapse by returning to the game en masse.

Indeed, around the end of May, Battlefront 2 began to experience an impressive and meteoric rise in popularity, which led it to attract more than 175,000 players across all platforms. This is no small feat for a title released in 2017, which has also received no recent updates. Of course, we imagine that the success of the Andor series, whose second season aired between April and May on Disney+, has something to do with it. But it's still quite a surprise.

Players are demanding Star Wars Battlefront 3

Especially since, for the past month, the enthusiasm of players has not abated. Quite the contrary, in fact, since in the last two days, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has finally managed to exceed its own record multiple times with a peak of 35,892 players recorded on June 22. Once again, for a title released in 2017 and having received no new content recently, this is extremely unusual. And inevitably, this motivates fans even more to call on Electronic Arts to demand the production of a Star Wars Battlefront 3.

They are not the only ones. At the end of May, Muhannad Ben Amor, alias Willmon in the Andor series, also made a strong appeal to the publisher to demand the return of Star Wars Battlefront. "Star Wars must give us Battlefront 3 as soon as possible. I grew up with Battlefront 2 — I've been a veteran since day one. Let's hope Battlefront 3 arrives" he declared on his Instagram account. Words that, certainly, only helped put the title back in the spotlight.

In the process, Battlefront 2 producer Mats Helge Holm also decided to speak out, indicating that he and his team would be more than willing to return to work if Electronic Arts asked them to. "We want to get the gang back together," he told a Reddit user, before adding: "I don't expect Battlefront 3 to be made official at the end of this campaign. But, yes, I think there are people talking about it right now."

A difficult expectation to meet

Unfortunately, even if it were to eventually happen, we would probably have to wait many years before seeing a potential Star Wars Battlefront 3 become a reality. And for good reason, the American publisher currently seems to want to focus on the return of Battlefield, which needs more than ever to regain its reputation after the failure of Battlefield 2042. In fact, there is no doubt that DICE, Motive, and Criterion, all associated with the project, are already very busy. That said, if demand continues, perhaps Electronic Arts will seriously consider it for the future...
