The Star Wars franchise continues to grow

Mark Hamill Doesn't Want to Be a Naked Force Ghost

While waiting to follow Rey in her next adventure in the Star Wars galaxy, Mark Hamill, the essential actor playing Luke Skywalker, gave an interview to ComicBook on the occasion of the upcoming release of his film The Life of Chuck, an adaptation of Stephen King's 2020 short novel.

During this interview, the actor was asked if there was a possibility that fans could see him again in future Star Wars productions. Hamill, who carried the original trilogy, has appeared in all three post-Star Wars films. His most notable appearance remains in The Last Jedi, where he teaches Rey the ways of the Force. But the 73-year-old American actor has just made a radical decision: no, he will not return to Star Wars: New Jedi Order even in ghost form.

While he is grateful to have been able to play such an important role in the franchise, he believes it is time for Lucasfilm to move on to other characters:

I am extremely grateful to George Lucas for allowing me to be involved in this project at the time. We never imagined it would become an ongoing franchise and a staple of popular culture. But I've had my time. I'm grateful for that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.

And jokingly added:

When I disappeared (in The Last Jedi), I left my robe behind. And there's no way I'm showing up as a naked Force ghost.

Mark Hamill confirms he's finally turned the page on Star Wars, as he already said in 2020. For now, no release date for Star Wars: New Jedi Order has been announced.
