Stranger Things is almost over. Nearly a decade after its launch, the Duffer brothers' series is due to bow out in 2025 on Netflix. Viewers were warned a long time ago that the fifth season would be the last. The creators didn't take this mission lightly, devoting three years to the development and production of these final chapters. The wait is almost over. At TUDUM 2025, the red N finally lifted the veil on this final adventure. The launch date was made official through a teaser lacking in new images. Here's a look at what we know.
How many episodes for the finale?
Concluding nearly ten years of adventures in the Upside Down is no easy task for the creators of Stranger Things. After lifting the veil on the origins of the big bad, Vecna, the series still needs to immortalize the confrontation between Eleven, her friends, and Number 1. To do this, the Netflix production is banking on a final season of eight episodes. This season 5 is therefore in line with its predecessors, the first salvo already had eight. Viewers who fear seeing the series rush to its end can nevertheless be reassured by the prospect of enjoying "little movies". Ross and Matt Duffer have long promised that these episodes will exceed an hour and a half. While the precise duration is not yet known, we can imagine that the season 4 finale represents a new standard for Stranger Things. As a reminder, it had a running time of 142 minutes.

As expected, the platform isn't putting all its eggs in one basket and is banking on three dates to create the event. Thus, the first four episodes will be available from November 27th. To discover the next three, you'll have to wait almost a month since the date is set for December 25th in France. Finally, for its conclusion, Stranger Things will meet its viewers on January 1st in France. Subscribers will be able to access this highly anticipated chapter at 2 a.m.
The plot of Stranger Things season 5
Season 4 of Stranger Things ended on a bittersweet note. As the fight against Vecna loomed, the series concluded with the heroes reuniting and the opening of rifts between the Upside Down and Hawkins. We didn't know how to begin, but these portals were opened. Did Max succumb to her injuries? Did Vecna claim another victim? What are the consequences of this event on the lives of Eleven, Mike, Dustin, and Will? These are all questions the series will have to address upon its return to our screens. However, it won't be a return to the same point in the story. Indeed, Season 5 will plunge viewers into the heart of the fall of 1987. The synopsis states:
“Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: to find and kill Vecna. But he’s gone, and his whereabouts are unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the city under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, a deep and familiar terror is felt. The final battle is approaching, and with it, a darkness more powerful and deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need the whole group—united, one last time.”
