Three years... It took three years for Stranger Things to officially return to Netflix after a record-breaking fourth season. The Duffer brothers are determined to conclude their series in the best possible way, even if it means making viewers wait longer than necessary. The wait is almost over, and unsurprisingly, the adventures of Mike, Eleven, and their friends were at the epicenter of the Netflix TUDUM, which took place last night at around 2 a.m. in France. Live and in front of an admiring crowd, season 5 of Stranger Things briefly showed what it's made of. A teaser has been unveiled, accompanying the announcement of the launch date for this final chapter.
Never two without three
Subscribers are starting to get used to it; Netflix is now relying on multi-part releases for its most popular series. Season 4 had already been released in two parts. For its grand finale, Stranger Things is offering three dates. As some internet users had spotted in the Netflix source code, the Duffer brothers' series will initially return on November 26, 2025 (November 26 at 2 a.m. in France). The first four episodes will be available on this date, while the next three will be available in the catalog on December 25 under the Christmas tree in France. Finally, Stranger Things fans will probably want to cancel their New Year's Eve plans, since the final chapter will be available from January 1 at 2 a.m.
A season that pushes the limits of the small screen
With the last episode of season 4, the Duffer brothers gave a glimpse of what the future holds for their production. After sticking to the classic format of around fifty minutes per episode, the series concluded with a movie-like chapter with no less than 142 minutes on the clock. For its fifth season, the series goes even further with all episodes lasting well over an hour and a half. A choice that will undoubtedly allow Stranger Things to avoid overlooking certain plot elements due to lack of time. This ambition does have a downside, however: it took more than a year of filming to produce the eight episodes that make up season 5. Viewers will be meeting with The Crawl in 2025, the episode that will serve as the opening to this new batch. The title of the grand finale is also known, leaving little room for doubt regarding the outcome of this fight that promises to be epic. In “The Rightside Up,” our heroes are expected to restore order. But at what cost? Who will emerge unscathed from this ultimate adventure?
