Street Fighter: The highly anticipated movie has found its Chun-Li and she's perfect!

While video game adaptations have certainly improved in production quality and fidelity to the games they were inspired by, at one time, this was still far from being the case. Street Fighter, for example, can attest to this, as Capcom's franchise has undergone several critically panned adaptations over the decades. Today, however, the Japanese publisher seems determined to rectify the situation with a new adaptation supervised by the company Legendary, which has just found one of its leading stars.

The Street Fighter film introduces us to its future Chun-Li

Indeed, we have just learned thanks to the media Deadline that Canadian actress Callina Liang has been chosen to play Chun-Li, a martial arts specialist and Interpol officer, on screen. A character well known to fans of the franchise, whose first appearance dates back to Street Fighter 2 in 1991. Liang, whose career is just beginning, has recently been seen in the films Presence and Bad Genius, both released in 2024, as well as in the series Tell Me Everything and the hugely successful Foundation on Apple TV+. Charismatic, a woman of action... Callina Liang seems perfect to play the fighter on the big screen.

The casting is complete!

She joins a cast that currently includes Andrew Koji, who will play the character of Ryu, and Noah Centineo, who will play the character of Ken Masters. Actors Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck have been chosen to play the characters of Blanka, Akuma, and Vega in this new adaptation of Street Fighter, about which very few details have been revealed yet. Legendary has been careful not to comment on this upcoming film, which has been announced since 2023.

All we know is that this Street Fighter reboot will be directed by Kitao Sakuri, who was recently seen working on the film Bad Trip and the Twisted Metal series. This will be the fourth adaptation of the franchise to date. It will follow the films Street Fighter and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, released in 1994 and 2009 respectively, as well as the British web series Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, broadcast in 2014. According to the latest news, the film is still scheduled for spring 2026, without further details.
