A few days ago, we were happy to announce that a brand new project related to Dragon Ball Super would be unveiled on June 20th. While many were hoping for the return of the manga or anime, the reality could well be quite different. Indeed, we know what it's about, and it may greatly disappoint you.
Summer will be hot for Dragon Ball Super
This June, we are slowly but surely approaching the 10th anniversary of Dragon Ball Super, whether in manga or anime. 10 years already, but without exemplary regularity. Indeed, the anime hasn't been released since 2018, and the manga has been on hiatus since last February. It's been a long time, but there might be something new this summer.
We know it, and Toyotaro even confirmed it to us with the release of volume 24: the Black Freezer arc is imminent. The problem is, we don't yet know when it will arrive. Is it the battle for the rights to Dragon Ball between Shueisha and Capsule Corporation Tokyo that's the cause? Again, we don't know. What is certain, however, is that Toyotaro will be present at Japan Expo, a good opportunity to get some information from him. Finally, fans are also eagerly awaiting June 20th to discover the big announcement teased by the mangaka. Unfortunately, we already know what it is, and it's not what the community was hoping for.
Dragon Ball Super: the manga and anime will not return
June 20th will mark the 10th anniversary of the Dragon Ball Super manga. For the occasion, Toyotaro teased a big announcement by sharing a drawing of Goku Ultra Instinct and Gohan Beast performing a father-son Kamehameha. However, it won't be what everyone expected. According to @DbsHype on X, this will be a figurine adapted from Toyotaro's design, complementing the Goku and Bardock figure released in 2020, which was in the same spirit.
Once again, fans are extremely disappointed. The Dragon Ball Super franchise has been going around in circles for months, even years. For example, @SupaChronicles, another source very well-informed about the franchise, revealed on X that the rights holders would like to release Moro and Granolah figurines, but that they are being prevented from doing so. While this is only a rumor for now, it clearly illustrates the deadlock surrounding Dragon Ball Super. However, nothing prevents a surprise announcement on June 20th, although we highly doubt it.
