Since its grand debut, the Epic Games Store has struggled to attract players. Despite the exclusives and free games offered every week, PC gamers are loyal to Steam. It's hard to ignore the ergonomics of Valve's platform, especially after so many years of dominating the sector. However, things are moving on the Epic Games Store side, with the removal of a controversial game, both from the store and from the players' library.
Dark and Darker permanently removed from the Epic Games Store
PC gamers with an Epic Games account, you risk seeing a game disappear from your library. As Epic Games explained via email to affected players, the game Dark and Darker will be permanently removed from Epic starting November 1st. A decision that isn't necessarily surprising given the issues surrounding the game, but which is still likely to disappoint more than one.
As a reminder, Epic had already decided to remove it from its Epic Games Store earlier this year. However, those who owned a copy could continue to play it fully. But at the beginning of November, everything will change: Dark and Darker will no longer be available to anyone. Of course, fans of illegal downloading will continue to rub their hands. Legally, at least, Dark and Darker will no longer be available to anyone.
"We removed Dark and Darker from sale on the Epic Games Store on March 5th in consideration of a court ruling in Korea between Nexon and the game's publisher, Ironmace. On November 1st, 2025, we will remove Dark and Darker from your library, at which point it will no longer be playable on the Epic Games Store. Starting immediately, players can no longer purchase Redstone Shards or Legendary Status Upgrades from the Epic Games Store. Players can continue to use purchased Redstone Shards until November 1st, 2025. We will refund all players who purchased the Legendary Upgrade. Refunds will be issued to the player's original payment method, and if that is not possible, players will receive a refund to their account balance. Epic. We are unable to issue refunds on Restone Shards. If you have not received a refund by July 1st, please contact Player Support." reads the email sent by Epic to players.
Dark and Darker is the source of a myriad of legal issues between its developer Ironmace and Nexon, which claims to have been robbed by the studio. A complex affair that still led Epic Games to remove the game entirely from its storefront. Despite this, it remains available and viewable on Steam. Ironmace also recently published a press release to share their preparations for the arrival of early access to season 7.
The dungeon crawler, launched in 2023 in early access, has been rife with controversy since its release. But justice is moving forward and the consequences are coming. It remains to be seen whether Steam will soon follow in the footsteps of the Epic Games Store by permanently removing the game from its platform and from the players' library.
