The latest Pokémon fixes its biggest flaw: but it'll cost you an arm and a leg

Say goodbye to stuttering, slowdowns, and other visual glitches: the 9th generation of the Pokémon franchise is getting a makeover for the arrival of the Switch 2. This Thursday, June 5, the Kyoto-based company's new console will hit shelves alongside a Mario Kart World that sells dreams. But some players are considering buying the Nintendo Switch 2 for a completely different reason. This evolution of the successful portable console will notably benefit from its increased power to give a new lease of life to games mistreated by the previous generation's hardware.

Many gamers are therefore waiting to rediscover their favorite adventures in a new light. Some improvements will be paid for – the famous Nintendo Switch 2 Edition which also comes with new content – while the simplest visual updates will be free. This will be the case, in particular, for the games Pokémon Scarlet and Purple, which promise unparalleled fluidity. A gameplay video released in the Nintendo Today! application finally allows us to see the extent of the improvements: and there is reason to be surprised.

The resolution is improved, Pokémon and NPCs can invade the screen without any problem, the animations are corrected and everything is displayed at a frequency of 60 images per second. These are the 9G games as they should have been offered to us at their launch, but you will have to spend at least €470 on a Nintendo Switch 2 to enjoy them. Our trainer soul would say that roaming Paldea in these conditions is priceless, but the need for a next-gen console to properly play a title that's already three years old is still enough to make some people grind their teeth.

For Z-A Legends: you'll have to pay up

In a few months, fans of the franchise will also be able to discover Pokémon Legends Z-A on Nintendo Switch 2 and roam the streets of Illumis in the most optimal comfort. But be careful this time, there will be no free upgrades. This upcoming installment will force players to choose between the Switch version or the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the title.

So, players who want to keep their original Switch will have to buy the base version of the game, which can be upgraded following the purchase of a Nintendo Switch 2, for an additional €9.99. Owners of the new console will not face any dilemma and will simply be able to purchase the edition adapted to their machine.
