The Legend of Zelda movie will arrive in theaters a few weeks later than originally scheduled.
In 2023, Nintendo announced a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie project. This film adaptation is being produced in partnership with Sony Pictures and has been entrusted to Wes Ball, the director of The Maze Runner trilogy and The New Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. For now, it seems that the title of the feature film is simply “The Legend of Zelda,” with no subtitle. At least, that’s what the rare communications surrounding the film suggest.
Last March, Nintendo announced that it would be released in theaters on March 26, 2027 in the United States, or March 25 in France, where new releases are released on Wednesdays, not Fridays. But plans have changed. Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of The Legend of Zelda, has just posted a message stating that the film's release date has been pushed back.
The Legend of Zelda Movie Release Date Postponed
“Due to production reasons, we are postponing the release date of the live-action film The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. This will be a few weeks later than planned, and we will take the time necessary to make the film the best it can be. Thank you for your patience,” he said on Nintendo’s Japanese X (Twitter) account. The long-awaited feature film is therefore set to hit theaters on May 5 in our country.
Not much is known about the film at this stage. Recently, Wes Ball stated that the goal is that “the money shows on the screen”, that the project is ambitious and that he and his teams would work to “make something big”, which doesn’t really help us. Beyond the artistic direction, the photography and the choice of actors, it will be interesting to see what story the director tells us, and especially how, the narration of the games particularly involving the players.
After the successes of Super Mario Bros., the movie and Detective Pikachu, Nintendo intends to dominate the world of the big screen after that of video games. It is only logical that it is the turn of The Legend of Zelda to have its adaptation.
This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it…
