The Lord of the Rings: 9 places we would like to spend our holidays

The Middle-earth universe created by J.R.R. Tolkien has become one of the foundations of modern fantasy. With heroes and antagonists each more interesting than the last, mythical adventures, and a development of this world down to the smallest corners, we undoubtedly have the richest fictional world written in the 20th century. During their adventures, our favorite heroes visit a large number of breathtaking locations and grandiose lands. However, if we had the opportunity to go on vacation to Middle-earth, where would we visit to have a good time? This is the question we answer today with these 9 (like the Nazgûls) must-see places in J.R.R. Tolkien's universe where you can take a well-deserved vacation.

The Lord of the Rings: 9 places we would like to spend our holidays

9# Caras Galadhon

The Lord of the Rings: 9 places we would like to spend our holidays

We begin this ranking with the elven city of Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn. Caras Galadhon is located in the center of the kingdom of Lothlórien. The city is set on immense platforms built around gigantic mellyrn (very large trees with green and silver leaves that turn gold in the fall). With breathtaking architecture, Caras Galadhon is a place to visit for its beauty and mystical aura. Even if the Galadhrim are not the most welcoming Elves at first impression, we must still remember the generosity they show to the Fellowship of the Ring and in particular Galadriel, who does not hesitate to give very beautiful gifts to this whole troop. We had also dedicated an article about the one she makes to Gimli and its importance much greater than it seems.

8# Esgaroth

We now move on to the large city built on stilts on the Long Lake south of the Lonely Mountain and the dwarven kingdom of Erebor. This human city is full of life due to its square and its trade with the Elves of Mirkwood. Here we find architecture that reminds us of certain Viking influences while the magnificent canals that run through the city give it a little Venice feel with a very glamorous side. J.R.R. With Esgaroth, Tolkien offers us a complete change of scenery in an unusual town and an unforgettable vacation.

7# The Old Forest

The Lord of the Rings: 9 places we would like to spend our holidays

Some might say they don't see the point of this forest, but just for the eccentric Tom Bombadil who lives there, the Old Forest is worth a visit. This character is the most mysterious in Middle-earth, and his house deep in the woods, which he protects without lifting a finger, makes this place a true haven of peace. Tom can tell us about his adventures by the fire for hours (or even days if we're not careful). Here we have an island of tranquility that offers a special respite to those who know how to make friends with the owner of the place.

6# The Dorwinion

The Lord of the Rings: 9 places we would like to spend our holidays

We now look at a region of Middle-earth primarily known for its art of winemaking. Although only mentioned in The Hobbit and in some of J.R.R. Tolkien's supporting texts, Dorwinion supplies King Thranduil's cellars in the Woodland Realm with the finest wines in the universe of Lord of the Rings. On the shores of the Sea of Rhûn, this region with its endless vineyards seems to be a true paradise for all lovers of good wine and therefore a destination of choice for any self-respecting Frenchman. 5# Rivendell

The Lord of the Rings: 9 places we would like to spend our holidays

Arguably the most famous Elven location in Middle-earth, Rivendell is recognizable by its simply sublime architecture and breathtaking waterfalls; the home of Lord Elrond is perhaps the most beautiful Elven city in J.R.R. Tolkien's universe. We can easily have a very pleasant stay there, even if the food may not be to everyone's tastes. This beautiful valley is an experience to be had by anyone who wants to visit Middle-earth.

4# Dale

The Lord of the Rings: 9 places we would like to spend our holidays

Just before tackling the top 3, we find the city of Dale. This immense human city is located between Esgaroth and the Lonely Mountain and although we discover it in ruins in The Hobbit, it is basically one of the most vibrant places in Middle-earth. A place full of life that becomes a great kingdom again after the fall of Smaug. With a huge number of merchants coming from all over the continent, this is a prime destination for a vacation in the lands of J.R.R. Tolkien.

3# Minas Tirith

In third place in the ranking, we find the mythical city of Minas Tirith. The capital of Gondor is undoubtedly the most impressive human city to visit. With buildings built directly into the rock on the mountainside and breathtaking views of the plain, this is the most famous fortified city in J.R.R. Tolkien's universe. With this vibrant place playing a central role in the exchanges between the peoples of southern Middle-earth, we find the best human city to go on vacation.

2# The Woodland Kingdom

While Rivendell has architecture, the elven city of Elrond doesn't necessarily stand out for its gastronomy. That's why King Thranduil's Woodland Kingdom takes second place in this top 10. With elven architecture somewhat different from the other elven cities of Middle-earth, the Kingdom where Legolas comes from can be confusing for many. However, with a particular taste for the pleasures of the table and a finesse of palate for the great wines of Dorwinion, we find here the best elven city for gourmets on vacation.

1#The Shire

The Lord of the Rings: 9 places we would like to spend our holidays

We find unsurprisingly in first place the most pleasant place to live in Middle-earth. With its green hills, typical houses that have become one of the emblems of the universe of J.R.R. Tolkien and a particularly welcoming people, we have here the best place to Middle-earth, where you can spend a dream vacation so much you won't want to leave.
