A surprise for residents of the Île-de-France region. On June 23, 2025, the latest update to the Île-de-France Mobilités app officially allows users to subscribe to the Navigo Liberté+ pass on iPhone. After early access, which only affected a handful of users, access to the IDFM service has been made widespread on iOS and Android, without restrictions.
This is a welcome relief for users: the Navigo Liberté+ has existed since 2019 in the form of a physical card, and its dematerialization on smartphones was slow in coming. However, the offer offers many advantages: each journey is debited at the end of the month, based on actual consumption, with no fixed subscription. Journeys also benefit from a reduced fare, at €1.99 per metro/RER journey (instead of €2.50), €1.60 per bus/tram (instead of €2), and a daily limit of €12. An undisputed success, which has attracted more than a million subscribers since its launch.
How to get your Pass?
To subscribe, you must update the Île-de-France Mobilités application (iOS 17.5 minimum, iPhone XR or newer), choose the Navigo Liberté+ option in the Purchase tab, complete your profile and sign a direct debit mandate. Adding it to Apple Wallet takes just a few minutes, but it is not possible to transfer an existing Liberté+ contract: you will need to create a new one. So be careful if you have already subscribed to a physical offer. It should also be noted that according to IDFM's General Terms and Conditions of Use, the Navigo Liberté+ contract is reserved for residents of the Île-de-France region, and proof of address is required to set up the contract. Since this type of document is not particularly complicated to obtain, it is expected that dematerialization will remove this restriction.
On Android, the beta version has already been available since April, but the official launch of the final version was also scheduled for June 23. On this platform, the virtual pass is stored directly in the Île-de-France Mobilités application, without going through a third-party application. The implementation of this feature has been long-awaited, and it is a turning point for the region. Now all that's missing is the annual mobile subscription, this time reserved for daily travelers, to complete the circle of this pricing revolution in the Île-de-France region. This next step, expected by the end of 2025, will complete the transition to all-digital technology promised by regional president Valérie Pécresse. This promises further increases starting next year, despite the assurance of a constant, but moderate, price increase in the years to come.
