The Xbox Portable is officially unveiled and it's a big deal

The Xbox Showcase got off to a flying start with the announcement of the brand's next portable console, in collaboration with Asus: the ROG Xbox Ally. The goal is clear: to carve out a place in the market alongside the recent Nintendo Switch 2, the Steam Deck, and all the other machines of the genre.

The Xbox Portable in partnership with Asus Rog is showing itself, it's ultra promising

For now, we don't have any technical specifications to get our teeth into, but it's said that you'll be able to download your games natively or stream them via the Cloud. The new console is specifically designed to merge with Xbox Game Pass, so much so that a button is dedicated to it, but the green brand has affirmed that its machine will be fully compatible with all online game stores like Battlenet, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. This promises an absolutely colossal library on paper, and without the need for any obvious tinkering. During this announcement, there was no specific release date, but a window set for the end of 2025, nor a price, unfortunately. The machine will come in two different versions upon release:

  • The ROG Xbox Ally X: AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme / 24GB of RAM / 1TB of hard drive space
  • The ROG Xbox Ally: AMD Ryzen Z2 A / 16GB of RAM / 512GB of hard drive space

However, we expect relatively powerful consoles given the first technical specifications revealed, including an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip (for the Ally X version) and an AMD Ryzen Z2 A (for the standard Ally). They will also have quite a bit of RAM in their throats, 24Gb for the Ally X version against 16Gb for the standard one.
