The Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 is already ready to hurt the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7

The folding smartphone market is getting hotter ahead of the next Galaxy Unpacked, which is expected to take place on July 9, 2025. Samsung is preparing to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7, its next clamshell model, but Xiaomi is planning to steal the show with an early launch of the MIX Flip 2.

Xiaomi will unleash its MIX Flip 2 to beat the Galaxy Z Flip 7

Xiaomi has officially announced the launch of its new folding clamshell smartphone for the end of June, just before the Galaxy Unpacked conference. This choice of timing is not insignificant: the Mix Flip 2 will compete head-on with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but also with the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra, already positioned in this segment.

Successor to the first Mix Flip launched in 2024, this new model promises a significant upgrade. It is expected to have a 6.85-inch folding screen with 1.5K resolution at 120 Hz, a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and a substantial 5100 mAh battery. On the charging side, Xiaomi is reportedly aiming for performance with 67 W wired and 50 W wireless. The device is also said to be IPX8 certified for water resistance and to offer a dual 50-megapixel camera on the back (wide-angle with optical stabilization and ultra-wide-angle).

Similar features, but different choices

For its part, Samsung is preparing a Galaxy Z Flip 7 that is very similar in appearance, but with some notable differences. It would also offer a 6.85-inch folding AMOLED screen (FHD+, 120 Hz), a second 4-inch external screen, the same Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, but a more modest 4200 mAh battery. Charging would be limited to 25 W wired and 15 W wireless. The photo part would be based on a 50 Mpx main sensor with OIS, accompanied by a 12 Mpx ultra-wide angle.

In terms of resistance, Samsung would bet on an IP48 certification, providing better protection against dust, but a slightly lower waterproofing than the Xiaomi model. At the same time, the South Korean manufacturer is also reportedly planning a more affordable version of its foldable phone, called the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, which could appeal to a wider audience... provided it accepts a few technical compromises.
