While the anime Lazarus will end next Sunday, the Japanese studio MAPPA has just announced the unexpected return of a cult anime for this fall of 2025. We tell you everything!
A return awaited by anime fans
At MAPPA, spring 2025 was marked by the release of the anime Lazarus by the legendary Shin'ichirō Watanabe. The creator of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo has teamed up with the director of the John Wick saga to deliver a top-notch action anime that recalls many aspects of Spike Spiegel's galactic adventures. For the rest of its 2025 schedule, the studio founded by Masao Maruyama has already announced the release of the film Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc, which will be released in Japan in September 2025, as well as season 2 of Dorohedoro.
While fans eagerly await news of season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen, for which a first poster had been unveiled, as well as season 2 of Hell's Paradise, MAPPA has just unveiled the first trailer for the second season of its reboot of Ranma 1/2, based on the comedic masterpiece by the great Rumiko Takahashi. This is an opportunity for us to learn that Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendō will be returning in October 2025.
Barely twelve episodes long, the first season of Ranma 1/2was a total success, satisfying both nostalgic fans of Club Dorothée and newcomers. While production times between seasons tend to get longer in Japan and Hollywood, the fact that the second season of Ranma 1/2is landing on Netflix barely a year after the first is quite surprising. However, we note that collaborations between the Red N and Japanese studios result in shorter production times than usual. Thus, seasons 2 of Dan Da Dan and Sakamoto Days will arrive on the platform in July.
In any case, we are delighted to see Ranma, Akane, Ryōga, Shampoo and their friends again. Especially since season 2 will introduce Cologne, Mousse and Master Happōsai (also known in French as Master Ernestin). Enough to guarantee great laughs among fans!
