Honor self-proclaims its Magic V5 as the world's thinnest foldable smartphone. It will be unveiled a week before the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which could also claim this status.

This is the world's thinnest foldable smartphone, and no, it's not Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7

Samsung has officially announced the date of its next Galaxy Unpacked conference. This will take place on July 9 and the brand will present its new Galaxy Z Fold 7. But it seems that one of its competitors is trying to overshadow it. At the same time, Honor has announced that its Magic V5, a direct rival to the Z Fold 7 in the book-sized foldable smartphone segment, will be unveiled on July 2, a week earlier.

And Honor doesn't only have the calendar in its bag. While the technical specifications of the Z Fold 7 are not yet officially known, even if we have a good idea thanks to leaks, the Chinese manufacturer assures that its Magic V5 will be thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and that it will even become the thinnest mobile adopting this type of design in the world.

Is the Magic V5 thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 7?

Honor does not hesitate to cite and compare itself directly to Samsung, explaining that the Magic V5 “is designed to compete directly with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7” and that the device will be “a compelling alternative for users looking for cutting-edge design, performance, and portability”. The manufacturer no longer wants to hide and hopes to attract the spotlight by directly opposing the undisputed market leader in terms of sales.

Upon its release, the Magic V3 was already the thinnest foldable smartphone in the industry, with a thickness of 9.3 mm. Since then, the OPPO Find N5 has arrived and managed to do better, lowering the record to 8.93 mm. The Magic V5 should therefore do better, if Honor's communication is to be believed. As for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it is said to be thinner than the Z Fold 6, going down to a thickness of 8.9 mm. But that might not be enough to beat the Magic V5.

Note that the launch of the Z Fold 7 on July 9 is international and that the smartphone should be available in France from July 23. In the case of the Magic V5, it is first the Chinese market that is concerned. It will arrive in France a little later.
