With this LEGO Icons Dragons: Toothless set, the Danish brand is targeting enthusiasts, nostalgics, and collectors. Designed for adults, it includes 784 pieces meticulously arranged to bring to life the most famous dragon of the island of Berk. The 16 cm tall figurine is distinguished by its movable joints, its iconic tail fin, and its faithful saddle, allowing you to recreate the most iconic poses of the Night Fury dragon. The designers even thought to include a fish and a removable plasma breath.
This set will be available at 69.99 euros from July 1st, with pre-orders open today on the LEGO website. A rather accessible price considering the finish, but also what it represents: a bridge between past and future for a saga that has left its mark.
Dragons: an intergenerational saga
Because Dragons is not just an animated success story: It's a generational phenomenon. Born in 2010 in DreamWorks Animation studios under the leadership of Dean DeBlois, the trilogy successfully combined technical prowess and raw emotion. It was praised as much for the richness of its universe as for its ability to maturely develop its characters. The result: three acclaimed films, more than $1.6 billion in cumulative revenue, and a loyal fanbase that has grown up... and is an ideal customer for LEGO.
The franchise's return to the cinema, this time in live action, is part of this logic of transmission. At the helm, Dean DeBlois takes the reins to offer a faithful but modernized adaptation of his own work. The story remains unchanged: Harold, a young Viking outsider, befriends Toothless, a feared dragon, upending the warrior traditions of his people. This unlikely relationship becomes the driving force behind a larger quest for tolerance, courage, and emancipation.
Universal is banking on a promising cast for this reboot. Mason Thames (seen in The Black Telephone) plays Harold, while Gerard Butler reprises his role as Chief Stoick, an authoritarian but loving father. Alongside them, Nico Parker (The Last of Us), Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) and Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) enrich a transgenerational cast.
In this context, the LEGO set is not just a derivative product: it becomes a piece of collection and a vector of emotion. It allows you to relive a story that many discovered as children and that they are preparing to pass on, in turn. Ultimately, this brick-built Toothless is more than a toy.
