Last November, Aptera announced the imminent arrival of an electric vehicle capable of running on solar energy. With its three-wheel design, this car promises up to 64 km of daily autonomy without recharging, thanks solely to the sun. After several prototypes, the startup now presents a complete validation model, designed with the technical elements intended for mass production.

This 100% electric vehicle features a new rear-mounted engine, supplied by Vitesco. This solution replaces the old motors integrated into the wheels. Despite this change, Aptera is maintaining its range targets, with a launch version announced at 640 km on a single charge. The roof and fenders are covered with solar panels that can provide up to 64 km extra per day, depending on the sunshine. The model also focuses on aerodynamics, with an ultra-lightweight body made of carbon fiber and composite materials. Thanks to its streamlined shape, the brand claims that it consumes three times less energy than a conventional electric car. Aptera will present the final model of its solar car on June 27 via a livestream on YouTube. The vehicle will be officially presented on June 27 at midnight (French time) during an event broadcast live on YouTube (video below). This will be a so-called “production-intent” version, meaning it will be almost identical to the final model. All integrated systems will be functional: air conditioning, infotainment screen, solar panels, charger, LG batteries, and NACS port (Tesla connectors). This first version, called the “Launch Edition,” is sold for $40,000 (approximately €37,400). An offer targeting the first people to invest in the brand.

Pre-orders are still open on the Aptera website, with a deposit of $100 (approximately €93). To obtain priority delivery, future drivers can invest at least $5,000 (approximately €4,670), after the first 2,000 models are reserved for the very first contributors. A discount program is also offered: an investment between $1,000 and $10,000 entitles you to an equivalent discount voucher. After the presentation, the manufacturer plans a road trip across the United States to demonstrate the vehicle's real-world range under normal conditions.
