New information about the next Tomb Raider game has just been shared online. Suffice it to say that the title's development is clearly experiencing some hiccups.

Tomb Raider: We know more about the next game in the saga and everything is not rosy

Tomb Raider is one of those flagship video game franchises that has millions of fans around the world. And it must be said that, aside from the release of remastered versions of Lara Croft's first adventures, we're still waiting to see a new installment.

For good reason, the last canonical installment to date, namely Shadow of The Tomb Raider, was released over seven years ago now. Since then, several spin-off projects have emerged, such as the film starring Alicia Vikander in 2018, or the animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft on Netflix in 2024.

Nevertheless, we already know that a new installment is in development. Information about it is rather scarce. Crystal Dynamics, the studio in charge of the project, simply confirmed in 2022 that the game would run on Unreal Engine 5 and since then… Nothing.

New information on the next Tomb Raider

However, the Society of Raiders account has just shared information on X about this upcoming title. Note that these elements should be taken with a grain of salt, in the absence of official confirmation from the developers.

This information, which comes from a since-deleted Reddit post, seems to reveal with some precision what is currently happening at Crystal Dynamics. First of all, the studio would have carried out a complete creative overhaul of the project in 2023, notably following a wave of layoffs decreed by Embracer (the parent company).

Internally codenamed Black Diamond, the title would be released in May 2026. A first presentation could also take place on February 14, 2026, to mark the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Note that the release window is likely to change, especially to avoid coming face to face with the game of the year. This is because GTA 6 is scheduled to arrive on May 26th.

Aside from that, the Reddit post also mentioned the launch of a new remastered compilation, namely the LAU collection. Still developed by Aspyr, it would include the Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld episodes. The release would be scheduled for February 14, 2026.
