The last few months have clearly been very busy for WhatsApp, Meta's popular messaging service. After unveiling four very promising new features about ten days ago, WhatsApp had already announced that other developments were due to arrive very soon in the application.
And if this new WhatsApp feature only concerns a handful of users for the moment, it could well be deployed across the entire application if it is successful...
Automatic summaries of your unread messages
In its beta version for Android 2.25.18.18, accessible to certain users of the Google Play Beta Program, the new version of WhatsApp should integrate a new feature that automatically summarizes your unread messages using artificial intelligence.
Called "Private Processing«, the operating mode presented by WhatsApp is relatively simple, and can be activated in one click for conversations that have too many unread messages.
By clicking on the «Summarize with Meta AI» button which will replace the traditional message displaying the number of unread messages, WhatsApp users will be able to access a complete summary of the messages.
Data storage issues?
In recent years, Meta has found itself in the sights of the authorities on several occasions, notably in April when the company was fined for non-compliance with the DMA.
Nevertheless, for this new feature, WhatsApp seems to have learned its lesson by taking more precautions. According to the information available in the application when activating this feature, no messages or content should be stored in the application.
In order to avoid any controversy, Meta has communicated on management entirely in the cloud, in a totally isolated environment. The company also specifies that once the messages are interpreted to generate a summary, they are automatically deleted.
An AI-powered writing assistance feature in development
As one might expect since the release of Meta AI, and after WhatsApp's excellent figures last May on the functionality's usage, the company seems determined to accelerate on the subject.
Indeed, according to information from WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp developers are reportedly working on a new message writing feature using artificial intelligence.
According to the published information, this would allow users to refine written messages or write them in a different your, although nothing has been confirmed by the company yet.
