In 2026, fans of Toy Story will be able to discover the fifth installment of the franchise. After bringing the famous Pixar toys through varied adventures, the studio recently revealed the next antagonist. And at the same time, the studio dropped this huge spoiler.
A new kind of villain in Toy Story 5
While the franchise initially focused on the friendship between Woody and Buzz Lightyear, the films have offered fans a multitude of characters like Mr. Potato Head, Rex, Zig Zag, the cowgirl Jessie, and the horse Bullseye. They also highlighted certain antagonists who made life difficult for Andy's toys, such as Grandpa Pépite and Lotso.
Recently, Pixar unveiled the new antagonist for the next installment. It's LilyPad, a children's tablet belonging to Bonnie and that Buzz and Jessie will have to face.
The franchise will address the issue of children's addiction to screens and new technologies at the expense of traditional toys. By introducing us to this new villain, Pixar has certainly revealed a spoiler for the plot of Toy Story 5.
Seven years have passed between the last installment and Toy Story 5. It's a safe bet that Bonnie has abandoned the toys Andy gave her before she started college. The arrival of LilyPad poses a threat to Buzz and Jessie, as the little girl seems more attached to the tablet than to them. Feeling neglected, the space ranger and the cowgirl could make the same decision as Woody in Toy Story 4: abandon Bonnie.
Especially since Jessie has already experienced this feeling, as she recounts in Toy Story 2. She would prefer that history not repeat itself and that her owner not abandon her again. And that's where this fan-favorite character could make his return.
Andy's return in Toy Story 5 spoiled by Pixar?
Back from college, Andy might have developed a certain nostalgia for his childhood toys. He might be tempted to go back to Bonnie to see his toys again and that's when Buzz and company would sneak into his car to escape.
A credible theory when we know that more and more toys are designed for adult collectors rather than for children.
The other possibility would be that Andy has become a father in the 16 years since he started university. Andy would take his child to the carnival in Toy Story 4 and find Woody, whom he would immediately recognize, and bring him home. The cowboy would know his old friend's address and would then pass it on to Buzz and the other toys. Thus, Andy's son would give the toys a new life, which would allow the franchise to continue. But it's not certain that further developing the Toy Story franchise would be a good idea...
