Translating the entire web in 18 days: DeepL's ambitious challenge with NVIDIA

Translating the entire web in 18 days: DeepL's ambitious challenge with NVIDIA

Known to be one of the main competitors of Google Translate, DeepL has stood out thanks to the quality of its translations and its very intuitive interface for users.

But if the German start-up had until now managed to differentiate itself from the crowd, the arrival of artificial intelligence on the market has completely called into question its use.

However, DeepL seems determined to continue to prosper, and the announcement that the company has just made shows its desire to become the leader in this market.

A new infrastructure for DeepL

If DeepL users already appreciated the responsiveness of the tool for translations, the new version of the tool should allow for much faster translation.

In the press release published on the DeepL website, the company claims to have equipped itself with a new infrastructure, with the NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD solution and the DGX GB200 systems. According to the startup, it would also be the first company in Europe to use such advanced equipment.

To achieve this, DeepL claims to have formed a partnership with EcoDataCenter, a Swedish company responsible for providing this entire infrastructure.

From 194 days to 18.5 days to translate the web

Although this new infrastructure should appeal to the most tech-savvy, it is through a more concrete case that DeepL wanted to demonstrate the importance of this development.

Indeed, according to DeepL, this new infrastructure would allow it to translate all the pages available on the web into another language in just 18.5 days, compared to 194 days previously.

The translation of the famous Oxford English Dictionary should be possible in just 2 seconds, compared to 39 seconds previously.

AI Linguistics: A New Market for DeepL

Beyond the massive translation speed offered by DeepL, this upgrade should also allow the solution to offer even higher-quality translations and open the door to new features.

Since the computing power provided by NVIDIA is much greater than before, DeepL could once again compete with artificial intelligence tools, starting with ChatGPT.

According to Jarek Kutylowski, founder and director of the German company, this should even allow DeepL to position itself as a leader in "Linguistic AI", a new and rapidly expanding market.

But while new translation products should soon be available on DeepL according to the press release, the company has not yet provided further details on this subject.
