Two months before its release, Luc Besson's Dracula has a first teaser

While Frankenstein is due for two films in 2025, and Nosferatu returned from the dead last December, another legendary monster is about to hit the big screen. Two years after the resounding failure of DogMan, and the even more consequential Arthur: The Omen, Luc Besson hopes to return to the spotlight with a reinterpretation of one of the most famous fantasy stories: Bram Stoker's Dracula. The project was filmed last year and was only given a February release date.

It's on July 30th that fans of centuries-old creatures are invited to take their seats at the cinema. But while the deadline is fast approaching, Dracula à la Besson hasn't yet brought himself to show his teeth. Two months before its release, the project finally has a trailer. It confirms that the director has largely deviated from his source material. Here, Dracula will not be the frightening figure who looms over the main characters, but rather the driving force behind the action and anchoring point of the story. The synopsis confirms the liberties taken. “In the 15th century, Prince Vladimir renounces God after the brutal and cruel loss of his wife. He then inherits a curse: eternal life. He becomes Dracula. Condemned to wander through the centuries, he will have only one hope: to find his lost love.” It should be noted, however, that the interview between the Count and the notary clerk Jonathan Harker will likely serve as a starting point. The character is present at the beginning of the trailer before it focuses on showing the mythical figure through the ages to reach the period in which Bram Stocker's epistolary novel evolves at the end of the 19th century.

A tailor-made role

This project was born, according to Luc Besson, on the set of his previous feature film: DogMan. Fascinated by the actor Caleb Landry Jones, who played the hero of his action film released in 2023, the French director decided to write a tailor-made role for him. He thus gives him the opportunity to slip into the skin of a legendary character. He will give the cue to Christoph Waltz, Zoe Bleu and Matilda de Angelis. Luc Besson is writing and directing. He produces on the EuropaCorp banner and in collaboration with SND Distribution. The film will be released in French cinemas on July 30.
