WhatsApp no longer works on these older iPhones and Android smartphones

June 1st changed a lot for our smartphones, and we must add to the lot the end of support for WhatsApp for several older smartphones. Devices that are not compatible with Android 5.0 (there probably aren't many of them left in circulation) are now deprived of messaging.

WhatsApp abandons iPhones older than 10 years

WhatsApp also requires iPhones running iOS 15.1 or later to work. This means that users of iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are deprived of Meta messaging. Models that cannot go beyond iOS 12.5.7.

9to5Mac reports reports from owners of first-generation iPhone 6s/6s Plus and iPhone SEs that they no longer work with WhatsApp, but these devices can be updated to iOS 15.8.4. There's no reason for them to have lost support for the app; if so, they should be updated. Support for all these smartphones should have ended on May 5, but WhatsApp has given them a short reprieve of 3 additional weeks.

The now-incompatible iPhones date back to 2013 (iPhone 5s) and 2014 (iPhone 6/6 Plus), more than ten years ago. It's likely that these users have since moved on to slightly more recent iPhones. Even though, with its 3 billion users, WhatsApp must certainly have a number of users who own very old smartphones.tele
