The recent deployment of update 4.9.7, launched by Free on June 23, 2025, is not just a simple improvement: it could be the lifeline of your network!
Update 4.9.7: a breath of stability
This update brings a real improvement to Wi-Fi stability. Indeed, it directly targets the problems related to the simultaneous connection of several devices, which had become a real headache for many. With the explosion in the use of connected objects and teleworking, these untimely outages or loss of connection only worsened the daily lives of users.
In detail, the update aims to improve traffic management and optimize the quality of Wi-Fi signals in high-traffic environments, such as homes with several online devices. An expected response, welcomed by subscribers, which allows the Freebox to better manage connection density without sacrificing speed.
Which Freeboxes are impacted by this update?
The Freebox Pop, Ultra, Revolution and Delta now benefit from more stable Wi-Fi thanks to this version 4.9.7. In addition, Free has not forgotten its Wi-Fi 7 repeaters. These devices, which aim to extend Wi-Fi coverage throughout the home, benefit from a full-fledged update (version 2.6.2) which improves the management of Multi-Link Operation (MLO). This process allows multiple Wi-Fi channels to work simultaneously, which is a guarantee of stability and increased speed for homes with high bandwidth needs.
How to apply the update?
To take advantage of this long-awaited update, there is no complex manipulation. Free has opted for a quick and easy solution: simply restart your Freebox Server. This will automatically launch the installation of version 4.9.7. For the more technophobic, this task can be performed via the Freebox Connect application, in the "Freebox Server" tab. Simply click on "Restart", and that's it.
Real benefits
In addition to correcting network outages related to overload, it also optimizes frequency management and improves the balance between the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. This allows for a smoother connection, even in the most congested areas. In practice, subscribers should notice a significant reduction in speed drops, connection interruptions, and problems related to network saturation.
In addition, improvements made to Wi-Fi 7 repeaters allow coverage to be extended without signal loss, even in areas further away from the Freebox Server. A real asset for those who have a large apartment or a house with several floors.
