While the Xbox portable console designed in partnership with ASUS was unveiled with great fanfare during the Summer Game Fest festivities, another Microsoft-branded machine is being revealed via a leak today, and it's not necessarily the one gamers were expecting.
An Xbox machine different from what fans were hoping for
The veil is lifting a little earlier than expected. The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition, the result of the collaboration between Microsoft and Meta, has just leaked online. An image of its packaging has been circulating for a few hours, half-confirming rumors of an imminent official announcement.
First observation: the headset has changed style. Gone is the usual white of Meta headsets. This special Xbox edition opts for an elegant black, highlighted by a green ring around the front panel. An aesthetic clearly designed to align with the Xbox universe. On the box, we also see a wireless Xbox controller. But be careful, there's no confirmation yet as to whether it will be included in the pack or not. Is this just a marketing gimmick? Or a real bonus? We should know more very soon. Obviously, this isn't the leak that gamers were waiting for, those who are especially eyeing the next real home console and want to know more and more. But it's still interesting nonetheless.
An offer designed for Game Pass
According to the latest leaks, this Xbox version of the Meta Quest 3S would cost $399. At this price, it would offer 128 GB of storage and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This is where things get interesting. Thanks to cloud gaming integrated into the subscription, the headset could allow you to play many titles without even owning a console. An approach that fits perfectly with Microsoft's strategy, which wants to make the Xbox ecosystem accessible everywhere, and not just on its machines.
With this special edition of the Quest 3S, Xbox confirms its desire to invest in the field of virtual reality. And rather than developing everything in-house, the brand is relying on solid partners like Meta to accelerate things. According to several well-informed sources, the headset's announcement is scheduled for June 24. Some stores have even reportedly already received the first copies. This suggests that the launch is imminent. Neither Meta nor Microsoft have yet commented on this leak. But at this stage, it's hard to imagine it was accidental. The objective seems clear: to build up the pressure before the reveal.
