With the triumph of the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, Big N has shown the immense potential of hybrid consoles and rekindled public interest in portable consoles. Remember that the original Nintendo Switch is in third place on the podium of the best-selling consoles in history, behind the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo DS, with more than 154 million copies sold. Dizzying figures! A success that has convinced the competition to give it a try. While Sony has marketed the PlayStation Portal accessory - which requires the prior purchase of a PlayStation 5 -, Xbox has just taken advantage of its conference at Summer Game Fest 2025 to unveil its first portable console.

It's the Asus ROG Xbox Ally. More than a new console per se, it's more of a collaboration between Asus and Xbox. The presentation trailer emphasizes the power of this portable console with the slogan "This is an Xbox", implying that the ROG Xbox Ally will have the power of an Xbox Series. Moreover, the portable console seems to be able to run games as heavy and ambitious as Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The message is clear: Microsoft wants us to understand that its console will be more powerful than the recently released Nintendo Switch 2, which is closer to the power of a PlayStation 4 Pro.

For the moment, Xbox and Asus have not yet announced the price of the console - remember that the Asus ROG Ally X is currently sold at 899.99 euros -; However, we do know that it will be released by the end of 2025. Two models are already planned: the ROG Xbox Ally and the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X. The first will offer a resolution of 720p and will have 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, while the second will have a resolution of 1080p, 24 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 1 TB. Moreover, the consoles will have a Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, a processor developed by AMD for portable consoles.
