Yoroï: Orelsan unveils the teaser for his new film

After starring in Never Show That to Anyone, a documentary directed by his brother and based on archive footage, and How Far Away It Is in 2015, Orelsan is trying his hand at fantasy with a mysterious project. Yoroï has released a first trailer, an opportunity to learn more about this unique project. Heading to Japan for a film that is to be inspired by Japanese folklore. The story will follow Aurélien, a character who seems to be largely inspired by the singer's life and who, after a trying tour, decides to settle in Japan with his wife Nanako. They are expecting their first child and move into a traditional house in the countryside. Among the trinkets left by the previous tenants, Aurélien discovers an ancestral armor that will awaken strange creatures: the Yokaïs. The term refers to everything related to paranormal phenomena and fantastic creatures.

It's hard not to see, in the approach to this project and the first images, references to some of the artist's titles and clips as well as to great classics of 90s cinema. The armor obviously recalls "Ils sont cools", while the idea of a human character crossing paths with an ancestral and magical artifact recalls... all the fantastic cinema of the 90s and 2000s. To bring this project to fruition, Orelsan called on the director of a large part of his clips: David Tomaszewski. It was he who immortalized the singer in his armor in 2012. The two men collaborated on writing the screenplay.

A Halloween release

The release of these first images comes with the official announcement of a release date. Mystical and fantastical creatures mean Halloween, and it's on October 29th that Yoroï will be available for viewing in theaters. Orelsan will obviously appear in the lead role, opposite Clara Choï. The actress was recently seen in Sage-homme and in the series Louis 28 on France 2. The film was shot in Japan. For now, it's unclear whether his recurring collaborators will be invited. This is particularly the case for Gringe, who was at the epicenter of the screenwriter's first film.
