Your Samsung account may be in the hot seat: act before the end of July or kiss it goodbye

Starting July 31, 2025, Samsung will implement a drastic new policy by deleting accounts deemed inactive. The criterion is the total absence of connection or activity detected over the past 24 months.

A simple gesture to save everything

The news, initially spotted by the specialist site SamMobile, may be worrying. Losing your Samsung account doesn't just mean losing a login, but also saying goodbye to all the history associated with it: data from the Samsung Health app, purchase history on the Galaxy Store, various backups... Once the deletion is done, Samsung is clear: "Deleted accounts and data cannot be restored". In short, you'll have to start from scratch if you ever want to return to the Galaxy ecosystem.

As a reminder, a Samsung account unifies and simplifies the experience on Galaxy devices, whether it's a smartphone, tablet, smartwatch (Galaxy Watch), TV, or even household appliances.

To prevent your account from being swept away by this wave of cleanup, all you have to do is... log in. A single login before the July 31 deadline is enough to reset the inactivity counter for two more years. A small click for the user, a big step for the survival of their data.

A fundamental trend in tech

Far from being an isolated case, this Samsung initiative is part of a broader industry approach. Google recently conducted a similar purge, citing security reasons. Indeed, abandoned accounts are easier prey for hacking attempts and can become security breaches. For its part, the X platform (formerly Twitter) considers an account as "abandoned" after only 30 days of inactivity.

For businesses, the objective is twofold: it frees up space on databases that have become gigantic and strengthens the security of their active users. However, there are a few exceptions. If your account is linked to a family account, has a history of purchasing products on the Samsung website, or has accumulated loyalty points, it will be considered active and spared from deletion.

For everyone else, the countdown has begun. You have a little over a month left to decide the fate of your old Samsung account. If you don't intend to return to the South Korean giant's ecosystem, you can authorize the company to delete your account and data instead of doing it manually. Note that Samsung will send an email to affected users before performing this action, but you might miss out if your account is associated with an old email address.
