What if Sony was preparing a return of the MotorStorm license for the coming years on PS5? If we are to believe the insider Tidux, who became known several years ago for having been the first to reveal many plans concerning PlayStation precisely, and who is now a renowned insider in the global video game industry, this would indeed be the case. A new opus of MotorStorm would be in development for more than a year and could arrive soon.
MotorStorm back, more than 13 years after the last opus?
It was in 2006, for the release of the PlayStation3, that Evolution Studios offered a new license with MotorStorm, an off-road racing game that was a real technical slap and a real demonstration for the launch of the PS3. Between the graphics, the effects, the gameplay and the functionality of the Sixaxis controller, allowing you to control your vehicle with the motion sensor, MotorStorm was clearly an excellent launch title, although a little repetitive and not provided with content.
The series will have had three major installments with MotorStorm Pacific Rift (in 2008) and MotorStorm Apocalypse (in 2011), as well as two spin-offs, including a very good one, on PSP and PS2, MotorStorm Artic Edge (in 2009) and a less notable one, MotorStorm RC on PS VITA and PS3 in 2012. Evolution Studio then produced the very good DriveClub on PS4 (with its stand-alone DriveClub Bikes) before closing in 2016.
Despite this, MotorStorm could return soon. According to Tidux, a new opus has been in development for over a year and the latter would take up mechanics from the third game, MotorStorm Apocalypse, and would offer a single-player and a multiplayer part. For the moment, we do not yet know which studio is in charge of the development, nor when the game could arrive.
As a reminder, PlayStation has confirmed A few weeks ago, the company was not against the idea of bringing back old cult licenses to the forefront in the years to come. And, recently, we learned through journalist Andy Robinson that Sony would of course be working on the return of old cult series from the PlayStation catalog.
A few hours ago, we learned that the Resistance brand, the Insomniac Games series, had just been re-registered by Sony. Would MotorStorm and Resistance be the next two big licenses to make their big comeback, more than 13 years after their last opus?
