GeForce RTX 5080: Perhaps the first images of an MSI model, expected availability for January 21

While it is now more or less certain that the GeForce RTX 50 Series will be officially announced in a few days during CES in Las Vegas, the date of availability of NVIDIA's new graphics cards on the market is still subject to rumors. According to the latest news, the GeForce RTX 5080 would be the first of this new range to land on the shelves, with effective availability on January 21. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5090 would follow, with no exact date for the moment.

RTX 5080: real photos or "photoshopped" shots?

In the meantime, the first photos of the box of a supposed GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming Trio OC Edition from MSI have just appeared. Posted on the ChipHell website forum before being quickly deleted, they seem to confirm some expected characteristics of this graphics card, in particular the quantity and type of memory (16 GB of GDDR7 on a 256-bit bus). Let's keep our tweezers handy: it's hard to tell if these are real photos or retouched shots.

The back of the box visible in one of the photos would also confirm the presence of three DisplayPort outputs and an HDMI output, without however specifying the exact version of these video interfaces. Unsurprisingly, the design of the card would remain rather classic, with dimensions similar to the RTX 4080 and the presence of a cooling system composed of three fans.

Remember that the GeForce RTX 5080 is supposed to embed a GB203-400 graphics chipset (Blackwell architecture) with 10752 CUDA cores (5% more than the RTX 4080 Super), and use a PCI-Express 5.0 interface. Particularly intended for 4K gaming, it will of course replace the current GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4080 Super in NVIDIA's catalog. We now hope that the price of this new high-end graphics card will remain... reasonable.
