Google Photos finally adds an essential tool for your selfies

Who hasn’t taken a selfie with their smartphone before realizing that the image saved was upside down? While some phones automatically correct this problem, this is not always the case. For Android users, Google Photos finally offers a simple solution to put photos back in the right direction.

Google Photos finally fixes the problem of inverted selfies

Google Photos introduces an option to correct inverted selfies, a well-known problem for users of front cameras. While many smartphones automatically adjust the image displayed in the viewfinder to give a more natural rendering, some still save the shots in mirror form, making the texts illegible and the perspectives strange. Until now, it was necessary to resort to third-party applications to correct this problem. Google is now filling this gap directly in its editing application.

Android users served first

Since last September, some users have noticed the appearance of a "Flip" button in the Google Photos cropping tool. However, this option was not yet accessible to everyone. Google announced today that the tool is now widely deployed on Android devices. To flip an image, simply open a photo in the app, click on “Edit”, then on “Crop” and activate the image flip option.

Officially announced for Android, no date has been given for an arrival on iOS. Given the time taken to launch this feature on Android, iPhone users may still have to wait a little while before having access to it.
