Instagram is going to offer its own video editing app. Like TikTok with Capcut, Instagram will soon allow you to edit your videos using its dedicated app.
Instagram follows in TikTok's footsteps
Edits, that's its name, has just been unveiled by Adam Mosseri, the boss of Instagram. And the timing of this announcement was probably not left to chance. Instagram presented its video editing app at the very moment that TikTok (and CapCut) were briefly inaccessible in the United States after being banned.
"Today, we're announcing the creation of a new app called "Edits" for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone. […] Edits is more than a video editing app, it's a complete suite of creative tools. There will be a tab for inspiration, another one for keeping track of early ideas, a much better camera (which I used to record this video), all the editing tools you’d expect, the ability to share drafts with friends and other creators,” Mosseri explained on Instagram.
Challenged by The Verge on Threads for Instagram’s lack of originality, which has, over the past few years, been constantly copying its competitors, Mosseri indicated that Instagram had been working “for months” to create Edits, and that the app would be “quite different from CapCut.” To support his claims, the Instagram boss indicated that "Edits will have a much wider range of creative tools and probably a smaller audience."
Edits is not yet available, but can be pre-ordered today on the App Store. In his announcement video, Mosseri talks about a planned release sometime in February, but it seems, according to what the App Store indicates, that the application will not be launched before March 13.
In addition, the application will initially only be available on iOS before arriving, a little later, on Android.
