As Marvel Studios prepares the Avengers' return to the big screen with Avengers: Doomsday, an invincible character from the comics joins the Marvel superhero team for the first time in 36 years.
This invincible hero from the comics joins Steve Rogers and the Avengers
It's a historic moment for the Avengers: a comic book hero who first appeared in 1989 is joining the superheroes for a new mission. And it's not just any hero, since he has the power of invincibility.
Indeed, while MCU fans wait to see Avengers: Doomsday in theaters, scheduled for release in May 2026, the Avengers are welcoming a new member to their ranks. It's Mr. Immortal. The character was already appeared in the Marvel Universe with the series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in the guise of David Pasquesi.
Craig Hollis aka Mister Immortal in the Astonishing Avengers
Created in July 1989 by John Byrne, Mr. Immortal, as his name suggests, cannot die or is immediately resurrected after his death. With this healing power, which is the most powerful in Marvel, he can never be killed and is supposed to survive until the end of the universe. His real name is Craig Hollis, and he is sensitive and willing to sacrifice himself to help his teammates survive in life-threatening situations.
However, he is prone to depression when he sees people around him having the possibility of dying. His returns to life are accompanied by episodes of rage that only Dinah Soar can calm. In the comics, his gift of immortality is genetic. He is also the only member of the Homo Supreme species. This is a step in evolution beyond Homo sapiens and Homo superior (mutants). Mr. Immortal forms the Great Lakes Avengers team and works with Hawkeye and Mockingbird.
So, after making an appearance in the series She-Hulk, Mr. Immortal joins the Avengers in the comic book Astonishing Avengers Infinity #12 by Steve Orlando and Francesco Archidiacono. In this issue, the team's tech expert, Night Thrasher, investigates a monolith that has strangely appeared on Staten Island. Unsure of what it contains, he contacts Hercules, Marvel's God of Heroes, and Mr. Immortal.
This comic series is particularly popular with Marvel fans. In addition to Mister Immortal, the Astonishing Avengers feature Somnus and Jim Hammond. This team of Avengers was designed by Steve Rogers to be an emergency response team for unexpected threats. It is composed of characters with various powers and are recruited for their specialties depending on the mission.
Astonishing Avengers Infinity Comic #12 is currently available from Marvel Comics.
