The spirit of Castlevania is back during the State of Play on June 4, 2025
A new AAA Castlevania game could be revealed this year. At Summer Game Fest 2025? The rumor mill doesn't mention any such details, except that the announcement will be made in 2025. If you're a fan of this cult franchise, long-time producer Koji "IGA" Igarashi made a big announcement while we wait for the next game. The Bloodstained franchise, which already includes three installments, returns in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement. It's nothing more or less than the spiritual successor to Castlevania.
Indeed, although it doesn't bear the Castlevania name, Bloodstained The Scarlet Engagement takes up the atmosphere and gameplay of Konami's older games. It's still a 2.5D side-scrolling action-RPG set in the same world as Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, the first installment in the series. "The story begins in the 16th century, where the Ethereal Castle and its demonic occupants terrorize the land and slaughter anyone who challenges their dark power. All attempts to destroy this building and eliminate the demons have ended in failure and the deaths of many noble warriors."

Like Ritual of The Night, Curse of the Moon or various Castlevania productions, the adventure will be based on a duo: Leonard, the young apprentice of the Black Wolves, and Alexander, a knight and incidentally the last survivor of the White Deer. They will have the daunting mission of infiltrating the Ethereal Castle to defeat the demon lord Elias. According to the studio, The Scarlet Engagement has the Bloodstained map "the most colossal and dangerous" to date - Curse of the Moon 2 included.
Like previous titles, players will have to explore the levels thoroughly to collect ingredients, craft upgrades and unlock magical abilities, in addition to finding weapons, armor and enchantments to gain power. Bloodstained The Scarlet Engagement is scheduled for release in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. By then, we may have had the announcement of a new Castlevania game...
