iPad Pro M5: We have a first idea of its release date

After the iPad Pro M4 (2024), we would therefore be entitled to... an iPad Pro M5 (2025). The most advanced iPad would be refreshed in the second half of next year, according to a reliable source, analyst Ming Chi Kuo in a post medium.

In detail, the analyst is based on information from one of Apple's suppliers, BYD Electronic, whose position has reportedly been strengthened in recent times, particularly as the exclusive supplier for the future HomePod with screen. According to his sources, the analyst suggests that the future iPad would therefore be equipped with an M5 chip and would enter mass production during the second half of 2025.

A schedule that does not seem fanciful on paper, Apple generally leaving 12 to 18 months between each generation of iPad Pro. With the iPad Pro M4s coming out in May 2024, a fall 2025 release seems entirely plausible.

M5 chip integrated into servers

Concerning the M5 chip, Taiwanese media outlet The Elec (via Mac Rumors) suggests that the chip would not move to a 2nm etching fineness and would be satisfied with a more advanced version of TSMC's 3nm process. The main reason behind this choice would simply be to avoid a further increase in costs.

That said, the M5 chip would be far from uninteresting. It would integrate TSMC's SoIC (System on integrated chip) technology. Its main advantage would be the 3D stacking of chips, allowing for better thermal management compared to a 2D distribution. The chip would also be deployed in Apple's servers to manage the server infrastructure in charge of AI.

The products that could benefit from it, in addition to the iPad Pro M5, would be the MacBook Pro, expected in late 2025, the MacBook Air in early 2026 and a new Apple Vision Pro for late 2025 or early 2026.
