Metroid Prime 4 promises to be the star game of the Switch 2

Metroid Prime 4 promises to be the star game of the Switch 2

On June 18, Nintendo organized an exceptional conference, like every summer. The Nintendo Direct broadcast more than 40 minutes of announcements of all kinds, formalizing promising projects. Mario, Zelda and even Final Fantasy had their moment of glory, before being eclipsed by Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. You are not dreaming, the next installment of the franchise, awaited by players since 2017, has resurfaced to surprise us all.

A first trailer was shared at at the end of the presentation, revealing to us in passing the first gameplay images of the title. It must be said that in all these years, nothing has really changed. Samus Aran fights a few enemies, before infiltrating the air ducts and starting new clashes. If the exploration is partially done in the third person, the shooting sequences are still in the first person, as is the case with this very particular saga.

These images are in line with what we could expect from a Metroid Prime 4. But are they transcendental for all that? Nothing is less certain. The environments and gameplay mechanics do not seem to bring so many new features, although visually the title is of an unprecedented quality. What worries players is that the wait – 8 years long – is not worth it. the height of what Nintendo Switch will be able to offer us.

The first game on Switch 2

Fortunately, it is likely that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be released on the manufacturer's next console. The title was announced for 2025 at the earliest, which is not without reminding us of a certain release window for the Nintendo Switch 2. This Direct will not have addressed hardware issues, as had been planned, but the machine should show itself in the coming months. In the meantime, Nintendo must build a list of games to serve as a showcase for its next device.

Just as Metroid Dread was for the Nintendo Switch OLED, Metroid Prime 4 could be the launch game for the Nintendo Switch 2. Given the anticipation of players, this could boost sales as soon as the console is released. If this hypothesis were to be proven, then it could mean that the quality of the new opus could be greatly improved, at the same time as the performance of the Switch 2. The next images will perhaps tell us more about this.

Other games are planned for 2025, but none from Nintendo studios come close to Metroid Prime 4 in terms of enthusiasm. It is still possible that the company will reveal a new Mario game, like the highly anticipated Mario Kart 10, but for the moment nothing has been confirmed.
