This morning, Nintendo made official the existence of the Nintendo Switch 2 without pressure. The console that the studio still calls “the successor to the Nintendo Switch” should be fully revealed by March 2025 at the latest. And yet, many are preparing for its release, players and developers alike.
Because no, a console is not much without associated and strong games to mark its launch. For the Nintendo Switch, we were treated to the remaster of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but also to Zelda Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. And as D-Day approaches, developers have probably already been hard at work for several months - or even years - to bring a list of titles worthy of the name to the next machine. Which games are already available? planned for Nintendo Switch 2?
For now, absolutely nothing has been confirmed. But the rumors keep coming. As soon as the Nintendo Switch 2 was made official, a leaker confirmed that 3 Pokémon projects have been validated for the Nintendo Switch 2. It is not yet known what nature they will be, but some claim that The Pokémon Company will soon introduce the tenth generation of its little monsters. Among the lot, we could also find Pokémon Legends: Z-A which is scheduled for release in 2025.
Fans are getting impatient
Moreover, very little information is available on the net regarding Nintendo Switch 2 games. Obviously, fans are waiting for a new Mario Kart opus, as well as the sequel to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. All of this is still possible, but nothing has been revealed in this regard. On the other hand, we are eagerly awaiting the next opus in the Professor Layton saga called New World on Steam.
The first trailer shared by Level5 did not have the Nintendo Switch icon, which had the web panicking. Indeed, for many this meant that the game was already planned for the next Nintendo console. Unfortunately, this theory fell apart with the next trailer which mentioned the current machine. However, it is likely that Professor Layton and the New World on Steam is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 since it is expected for 2025 at the earliest.
More games with backwards compatibility?
With backwards compatibility, Nintendo could very well have a huge list of games to offer its loyal players as soon as the Nintendo Switch 2 is released. However, it has not yet been proven that this backwards compatibility either in the plans of the manufacturer who has so far bet on different cartridges for each generation of console, and no digital backwards compatibility. However, as the practice becomes more widespread and at a time when game preservation movements are growing, the studio may have no choice but to give in to the trend, just like PlayStation and Xbox.
