PS5: This long -awaited feature finally arrives!

In 2021, Sony invested in Discord, the instant messaging service dedicated to communities and gaming. While gamers were expecting a complete and rapid integration with their console, it seems that the agreement between the two companies took its time. For several months, it was already possible to transfer a voice conversation from the mobile application to the PS5, but it was not possible to do so natively from the machine.

A long-awaited service

This will soon be a feature available to all players on PS5. Discord announces that its deployment will be gradual in the coming weeks, and that Asian players will be the first to benefit from it. Several functions will be available, such as the ability to join a voice channel directly from the console, or join private calls and groups.

Before we can experience it, the company details the steps necessary to activate these two options:

Of course, Discord does not take anything away from you, and still allows you to transfer your calls from your application (mobile or desktop) to your console. It is good to note that this feature is also available on Xbxo Series X / S, but Microsoft has not yet announced the arrival of new features on its platforms. It's a safe bet that this is an exclusive for the moment, due to the agreement between PlayStation and Discord.

How to take advantage of Discord integration for free?

To take advantage of it, you won't have to pay anything. Discord is a free service (with a paid premium subscription) and you don't need any PlayStation Plus subscription, even if it is an online feature. You will simply need to link your PSN and Discord accounts in the console settings.

To do this, you must already have a Discord account. If not, you can create one by clicking right here. You then need to associate it with your console by going to the settings, under the Users and accounts tab, then Linked services. A list of networks such as Spotify or Twitter will then appear, which now includes Discord. Click on the corresponding icon and follow the instructions.
