The Apple Watch Series 4 has remained the best smartwatch model from the Apple company for years (and probably the best smartwatch, period). Other generations followed and ended up supplanting the Series 4, which nevertheless remained an option with an excellent quality/price ratio. But we have to face the facts, this model is now "vintage"!
A watch that still works
The Series 4 has indeed appeared in the list of Apple's "old products", everywhere in the world and for all models (aluminum and stainless steel, 40 and 44mm). The manufacturer explains that the devices that enter this club have not been manufactured for more than five years, and for less than seven years at the most, which is the case since the watch was released in 2018.
Apple no longer performs hardware repairs on old products. It is always possible to inquire with an authorized repairer who can possibly order parts, or independents, even if Apple Watches are known for the extreme difficulty of their repair.
This does not mean that the Apple Watch Series 4 suddenly stopped working at the beginning of this year! Quite the contrary, they can still provide proud services, despite their incompatibility with watchOS 11. This model inaugurated a fairly marked design change compared to previous generations, with a thinner case and a 30% larger screen. A design that has aged like fine wine: it has not been made old-fashioned by the changes made since then by Apple.
The Series 4 is not yet considered “obsolete,” a list that includes products produced that have not been manufactured for more than seven years. Spare parts can no longer be ordered. And there, it really is the beginning of the end.
