Meta Quest: The last update can block your VR helmet, Meta works on a solution

The Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 headsets, as well as the more affordable Meta Quest 3S that launched just a few months ago, are reportedly affected by this critical and blocking issue, according to the many threads popping up on Reddit and community forums. More specifically, the bug is reportedly occurring for some users who haven't turned on their headset for a while, which seems to indicate a software incompatibility between this new v72 update and older firmwares. The Meta Quest 2 and 3/3S in question would then restart in a loop after the update, or even stop starting at all if a factory reset is attempted.

A solution to come for broken Quests

Meta wants to be reassuring, indicating that it is working on this bug and adding that the problem only concerns a minority of devices. For those affected, the manufacturer specifies that customer service will receive new instructions to follow to support their broken Meta Quest, a priori even if it is no longer under warranty. In the meantime, if your Quest no longer works, Meta suggests trying to resolve the problem by holding the Power button down for 45 seconds before releasing it, in order to force the headset to restart. If it still doesn't come back to life, all you have to do is contact Meta's after-sales service.

It finally seems that the v72 update is no longer distributed, at least temporarily; instead, the headsets are now receiving the previous update v71, available since the beginning of December. This has improved certain features (video sharing directly in Chat, adding Google Calendar appointments to Calendar or optimizations of the Link functionality), added a touch of artificial intelligence and brought a redesign of the Horizon OS system interface.
