Samsung Galaxy S25: a new benchmark reveals two good surprises

As the Galaxy S25 series launch approaches, a new benchmark suggests that the company could opt for an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite processor to boost performance in its next flagship model. Samsung could also power all Galaxy S25 models with Qualcomm’s chip, ditching its Exynos chips for this year.

Custom Snapdragon 8 Elite chip for the Galaxy S25?

Samsung is considering powering the Galaxy S25 series with a custom version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, according to results recently spotted on Geekbench 6. These benchmarks show slightly lower performance than other devices equipped with the chip, such as the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro. However, they also reveal a key detail: two of the processor's eight cores are clocked at 4.47 GHz, compared to 4.32 GHz for the standard version.

This setting suggests that Samsung could launch a "Galaxy" variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, in line with the optimized versions used on some Galaxy S24s. The rest of the configuration, including the six-core cluster clocked at 3.53 GHz, remains unchanged. The benchmark in question concerns the SM-S931B model, which corresponds to the international version of the Galaxy S25. Enough to revive rumors about Samsung's choice to equip all of its Galaxy S25 models with Qualcomm chips and not Exynos.

Tests before the official launch

This slightly lower performance compared to other smartphones equipped with the same chip can be explained by the use of hardware and software still in development. The final versions of the Galaxy S25 could offer higher performance, especially considering that the tested model is equipped with 12 GB of RAM. A version with 16 GB could be offered, on the S25 Ultra for example, offering increased performance.

These are all figures that indicate that Samsung is exploring options to improve the processor that will equip its smartphones as much as possible. At this stage of the development cycle, these adjustments are probably close to the final specifications. But even without these optimizations, the Snapdragon 8 Elite remains a significantly faster processor than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
