The production of Nintendo's portable console seems to have indeed begun: "stolen" photos of the console's motherboard, published on Reddit, are proof that the manufacturer is starting to build up stocks in preparation for the market launch of this Switch 2. And for us, this is an opportunity to confirm certain details of Nintendo's future console.
Switch 2: technical specifications almost confirmed
The size of this motherboard, first of all, seems to confirm the larger dimensions of the Switch 2 compared to the first version. This is a major argument in favor of the supposed 8-inch screen of this new console.
The photos then show the Switch 2's SoC: it is a custom chip specially for Nintendo and its console (as was already the case with the Tegra X1 of the first Switch, by the way), a die-shrink – that is, a reduction in the size of the original chip using a better etching finesse – of NVIDIA's Tegra T239. More precisely, the inscriptions that can be seen on this chip of approximately 200 mm² seem to indicate that Samsung is responsible for manufacturing it, potentially in 5 nm EUV.
With an Arm Cortex X1 core, three Cortex A78 cores, four Cortex A55 cores and a graphics part grouping 1536 CUDA cores on Ampere architecture, all accompanied by 12 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 memory and 256 GB of storage space, the Switch 2 could (almost) hold its own against the Steam Deck. The progress compared to the first Switch is obvious, but let's not forget that we are talking about a console released in 2017 that already did not integrate components of the first youth... In any case, everything suggests that the Switch 2 will indeed see the light of day in 2025, to the great delight of gamers, young and old.
