PlayStation players won't be getting any big first-party games this year. That doesn't necessarily mean Sony will be shelving the hardware side of things either. According to the latest reports from CNBC, analysts are predicting the PS5 Pro to be released in 2024. More than three years after the last-gen console hit the market, isn't it time to move up a gear?
GTA 6 in the spotlight
If we're to believe previous console generations, the PS5 is almost halfway through of its cycle. Last year, Sony released a revised version, lighter, smaller and with more internal storage. However, this is only a new envelope for a machine that produces exactly the same performance. The need for a more powerful console therefore remains very present within the community.
The release window set by analysts would cover the second half of 2024. This was brought forward following the reveal of GTA 6 a few months ago. Rockstar Games has already warned that the most anticipated game of the next 10 years will be released in 2025 at the earliest. Although we are not immune to a delay, manufacturers must already prepare for its arrival. The game promises us environments of almost flawless technology, but also an open world full of possibilities.
Just as the first PS5 of the name was entitled to some strong games for its release, GTA 6 could serve as a technological showcase for the PS5 Pro, and thus boost sales of Sony's hardware branch. Of course, all of this remains projections, and the company has not made anything official or made any comments to the media. We will therefore have to be patient once again before being fixed on the subject.
Nintendo, Xbox: new machines soon too?
This is not without recalling that Nintendo is also expected to deliver this year, and this until the beginning of next year. The company is expected to release its next console, the Nintendo Switch 2, before the end of fiscal year 2024. According to leaks from last year, Xbox should also provide us with a new console by October. Plans may have changed internally since then, but this information shows a real trend towards improving the console fleet among all manufacturers.
