Baldur's Gate 3: A well-hidden secret discovered after the final update

With its truly sprawling story, ripe for improbable discoveries, even two years after its release, Baldur's Gate 3 must still hold many secrets that very few players have had the opportunity to see, depending on their choices or certain situations. In this case, the release of Patch 8 mysteriously revealed an important lore point for the drow paladin Minthara, previously cut from the final game.

Family secrets unearthed in Baldur's Gate 3

Larian Studios did its best to think of every possible outcome to offer a unique adventure to every Baldur's Gate 3 player. It is partly such impressive writing quality that earned the title its well-deserved GOTY 2023 award. However, many elements imagined by the studio ultimately did not appear in the final game, for various reasons such as a lack of time or consistency for the story told by the game.

One of these elements, however, was strangely restored thanks to the release of patch 8. This one specifically concerns Minthara, a character that can generally be recruited by playing an evil character in Baldur's Gate 3 (but not only). In the video below, Finrod Felagund presents several lines of dialogue previously absent from the game, which he was only able to discover by casting the spell "Commune with the Dead" on her body. We thus learn that she had a daughter. Such an element is not mentioned anywhere else in the game, even when we talk to a very living Minthara during our adventures.

Unfortunately, this part of Minthara's story will never be continued. Larian Studios has indeed decided to end support for Baldur's Gate 3, aside from bug fixes if the need arises. Swen Vincke's teams are now working on the development of his next two games, which are being described as "extremely ambitious." However, it will take a long time for these two babies to reach maturity.
