This February 14, the annual meeting that no one agrees on is back. At Journal du Geek, we are big romantics, but also big… geeks (thank you). This year, Valentine's Day falls in the middle of the week. It is therefore sometimes complicated to organize a grandiloquent outing or book a restaurant. Especially if you leave it to the last minute. This is why we can always suggest spending the evening in front of a video game. Unlike the film, which will leave little room for interaction, video games are very often a source of communication, laughter and complicity. Super Mario Bros. Wonder

You play as a couple on the run, Kay and Yu, who take refuge on an isolated planet. You will therefore have to explore your environment and face the challenges that arise, all while following a personal and intimate narrative over the hours. It is a game definitely focused on the theme of love. You won’t be able to finish it in one night, but Valentine’s Day can also be a time to start a new activity together.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
If romance isn’t your thing, we also have some great recommendations. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is a fairly long title that refers to a puzzle and reflection game to be played cooperatively. On the same principle as escape games, you will have to defuse a bomb within a given time by following enigmatic instructions. One has the mechanism, the other the clues. Communication is key in this title that puts you under a lot of pressure. It's time to test your relationship!
The Quarry
Romantic-allergic people will love the next suggestion. The Quarry is an excellent alternative to classic horror films. Developed by a giant of this kind of titles, the game is presented in the form of an interactive film that can be played by several people in a local co-op. Once again, the story will last longer than an evening (between 6 and 8 hours), but is divided into chapters, which is quite practical for picking up a second session later. Thrills guaranteed.
Snipperclips – The Two Make a Pair
Logical and visual minds will love Snipperclips. It’s a collaborative puzzle game in which players embody geometric shapes. The goal is to solve puzzles by cutting each other to change their shape and fit the proposed mold. It doesn’t look like much, but its cute world and clever mechanics can liven up an evening without any hassle. The game is divided into levels, so it’s easy to stop if the evening takes a different turn. Plus, it’s suitable for beginner players, so your partner won’t have any excuse not to try it.
Lovers in a dangerous spacetime
We end with a game that has the word love in its title. Lovers in a dangerous spacetimeis an action game where players steer a spaceship through procedurally generated levels. Each player controls different positions inside the ship, such as weapons and shields, and must work as a team to navigate dangerous environments, fight enemies and rescue captured creatures. It’s a different atmosphere from other proposals where real-time action prevails over thinking, but just as appropriate for a romantic date.
